The Art of Forgery

ABOUT THIS LECTURE

future lecture

Date of the event

04/12/23 - 6:30pm (EST)

On the occasion of the so anticipated retrospective on Vermeer held at the Rijksmuseum this year, I wanted to look into the art of forgery.
Where is the link you might think? Well, Vermeer is one of the artists whose works have been heavily copied. One of the most talented forgers of Vermeer’s works, fooling a large amount of collectors and curators, is Han van Meegeren.
In this lecture, we look at the subtle differences between copies and forgeries and how these where perceived throughout different periods which will be analyzed through various famous and less-known cases.
If you have always been curious about the techniques used by art crime experts to detect a fake or a forgery then I am sure you will enjoy this lecture.
