Isabella Stewart-Gardner, a Venetian fantasy in Boston

ABOUT THIS LECTURE

Date of the event

On this second lecture of our series of art talks about American Women Collectors, we will discuss the extraordinary life and legacy of Isabella Stewart Gardner.

Isabella and her husband Jack spent a large part of their life in Venice, meeting with artists, historians, writers. Isabella started developping a passion for Venice as well as an appreciation for the Italian Old Masters. With a growing art collection and the ambition to give to Boston the gift of art, she built her own Venetian palazzo in the heart of Boston.

The museum was the subject of the most important art heist in 1990 and the precious stolen artworks are still missing.
